Dr. Maribel Santos-Cordero

Dr. Maribel Santos-Cordero was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She earned a DMD degree from the University Of Puerto Rico School Of Dental Medicine with high honors and has been practicing dentistry since 1994. She practiced as a general dentist for five years in a small town in Puerto Rico. As the only general dentist willing to treat little ones, she soon discovered her passion for children and decided to pursue a specialty in pediatrics. Dr. Santos-Cordero completed a two year residency program in Pediatric Dentistry at The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, NY.

Treating children is her vocation and it is her mission to provide each patient with the necessary tools to achieve better oral health. She speaks Spanish and English fluently. She has earned privileges to practice dental surgery at the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg and has been on staff since 2002.

A firm believer of the quote: “If you can’t repay a favor, pay it forward” she often volunteers her time and services to those in need through events like: Project Christmas Smile, Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps and the Baptist Church Dental Van. Since 2012, she has organized a “Give Kids a Smile” event at her office and provided free dental treatment to children from disadvantaged homes with limited access to care. She also gives back to the community by providing consultations and treatment to patients with Cleft Lip and Palate and other craniofacial deformities through Children’s Medical Services of Sarasota.

Dr. Santos-Cordero believes that learning is a never ending process. She regularly attends continuing education courses across the United States to expand her professional scope and to stay up to date on the very latest techniques. Although Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry is not a requirement to practice her specialty, Dr. Santos-Cordero accepted and completed the challenge of going through the rigorous process to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry*. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member in good standing of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, the American Dental Association and its local affiliates.

Since 2012, Dr. Santos-Cordero has been honored by her peers with the distinction of being named one of America’s Top Dentists in the Sarasota-Bradenton area and has appeared in the Sarasota Health Magazine as one of the Best Doctors & Dentists in her specialty.

Dr. Santos-Cordero moved to Sarasota with her husband and two boys in 2001. When she is not in the office you can find her exercising, enjoying church and sports activities with her family or involved in her non-profit organization, Ride 2 Remember, to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease research.

*Certification by the ABPD provides assurance to the public that a pediatric dentist has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills, and experience requisite to the delivery of quality patient care. This two part certification process consists of a Written Qualifying Examination and an Oral Clinical Examination. For more information, go to
